You have an idea. Maybe you want to introduce a new service, organize a community event, or finally put together a portfolio of your work.
Then comes the hard part: deciding what to do first.
For this exercise, give AI a small planning job: turn your idea into a realistic plan for the next seven days. The aim is to leave the conversation knowing what to do next, how long it might take, and what a finished first step looks like.
Start with a small, specific outcome
“Help me grow my business” leaves a lot for AI to guess.
“Help me prepare one new service for a small test with customers” gives it a clearer target.
Before you paste the prompt below, decide three things:
- What would you like to accomplish this week?
- How much time can you actually spend?
- What do you already have to work with?
Rough notes are enough. You do not need to write a business plan first.

Help me turn an idea into a realistic seven-day action plan.
GOAL
By the end of the next seven days, I want to: [describe one specific outcome].
CONTEXT
This is for: [my business, personal project, community group, etc.].
My experience level is: [beginner, some experience, etc.].
I can spend a total of: [number of hours] this week.
My maximum budget is: [amount, or no spending].
My main obstacle is: [what is slowing me down].
SOURCE
Use these notes as the facts about my situation:
[Paste relevant notes, available materials, deadlines, and constraints.]
EXPECTATIONS
First, ask up to three questions if essential information is missing.
Wait for my answers before making the plan. If you have enough information,
make the plan now.
Break the work into no more than five manageable tasks across seven days.
For each task, show:
- When to do it
- The specific action
- An estimated time to complete it
- What “done” looks like
Keep the total estimated time within my available hours and the spending
within my budget. Treat time estimates as estimates, not guarantees.
If the goal is too large, suggest a smaller outcome and explain why.
Use plain English. Identify assumptions and anything I need to verify.
Do not invent facts about my business, customers, costs, or likely results.
Finish with one action I can take in the next 15 minutes. Count that action
as part of the plan, not extra work.
See what that looks like
Here is a fictional example from a small-business owner:
I run a small gardening business. This week, I want to draft a description of a seasonal garden cleanup service and prepare to ask three existing customers for feedback. I have two hours and no budget for new tools. I already have a list of services I can provide, but I have not decided on pricing. My biggest obstacle is trying to make everything perfect before I show anyone.
A possible plan could look like this. This is an illustration, not a tested AI response or a promise of results.
| When | Action | Estimated time | What “done” looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | List what the service includes and excludes. | 15 minutes | A short list with clear boundaries. |
| Day 2 | Draft a plain-English service description. | 30 minutes | One paragraph explaining the service, without invented pricing. |
| Day 3 | Write three questions to ask customers. | 20 minutes | Questions about clarity, usefulness, and missing information. |
| Day 4 | Choose three customers to approach and draft a feedback request. | 25 minutes | A request ready for the owner to review and send. |
| Day 7 | Review the draft and note what still needs a decision. | 30 minutes | A revised description and a short list of open questions. |
Total estimated time: two hours. Getting customer replies is outside the owner's control, so the week's success is preparing the service for feedback—not promising that feedback will arrive.
Why the prompt is structured this way
It follows GCSE: Goal, Context, Source, Expectations. Remember it as Giraffes Can See Everything.
- Goal: Give AI a clear finish line.
- Context: Explain your time, budget, and experience.
- Source: Supply the facts it should work from.
- Expectations: Describe the answer you want and the limits it should respect.
These instructions give you a concrete plan to review. You still need to check whether the tasks fit your situation and whether the time estimates are realistic.
If the answer still feels overwhelming
Keep the conversation going with this follow-up:
Make this smaller. Keep only the three tasks that matter most for my goal. Explain what I can postpone, and keep the revised plan within my original time and budget limits.
Before acting, check for missing costs, unrealistic deadlines, and assumptions presented as facts. Keep customer names, contact details, and confidential business information out of your practice example.
Try it with one idea today
Choose something you have been putting off. Fill in the brackets, paste the prompt into your AI assistant, and review the first suggested action.
